We cannot emphasize enough how important it is to have control over the power supply when we talk about clean sound. At first, people were skeptical that the power supply made any difference to sound quality, but this skepticism has faded for a very simple reason – there is an audible difference when a high-quality power strip or a proper power cable is connected.
Intuitively, it also makes sense why the power supply has a significant impact on your system’s overall sound quality, because it is the driving force behind everything. Without power – no sound. In other words, it works just like gasoline or diesel does for your engine, and here there are not many who question the importance of the right fuel for overall performance.
In this article, we will briefly provide our simplified explanation of the importance of the power supply for your music system, and why it cannot be avoided if you want to get the best possible performance out of your system.
Why power makes a difference
It can be difficult to understand why the electricity we use in our daily lives is not good enough for our audio system. However, this is because there are many different kinds of interference on our shared power grid. Our washing machines, refrigerators, and televisions are all connected to the same power grid, and they generate noise and voltage fluctuations that prevent our hi-fi equipment from performing optimally. Our hi-fi components can still function and play without directly audible interference, but once you start removing or suppressing this mentioned noise on the power grid, you suddenly discover what clean power can do for the sound. With clean power, all your components perform audibly better, simply because they have better working conditions when they are not exposed to all that noise.

What happens when you get clean power?

The magnificent feeling of a live concert, or the close personal atmosphere of an intimate concert? All aspects of the music simply become more genuine and lifelike when we factor clean power into our music systems.
How do I get clean electricity?
There are many different technical solutions, all intended to improve our power supply. In the vast majority of cases, this involves a so-called “power strip” that supplies our devices with power. We know the ordinary power strips from everyday life as the white extension sockets we buy cheaply at the hardware store. Power strips for Hi-Fi use are of a markedly different nature, and they are typically somewhat larger than those from the hardware store because they have various built-in technical measures that either clean or suppress the noise.
The various manufacturers usually have their own specific approaches to producing these Hi-Fi power strips, but the methods can typically be divided into two segments: active and passive power strips. We will not go into the technical difference here, but common to all of them is that they exist to create cleaner power and, as a result, better sound.
The power strips are typically equipped with 6-8 outlets, each of which is intended to supply a given product with clean power.
