Focal - Award-winning headphones and speakers
It all started in 1979 in Saint-Étienne, when Focal's smoldering talent took root in the workshop of a family-run company specializing in precision mechanics. At the time, only two men were working on manufacturing speaker drivers, one of whom was Focal's future founder, Jacques Mahul. Creations from this Hi-Fi enthusiast and Pink Floyd fan have captivated music lovers and audio enthusiasts all over the world.
The Focal brand became a business by manufacturing speaker units for other speaker manufacturers, while another brand, JM-lab, focused on producing high-end speakers. The flagship of this first speaker range was the DB 13. Equipped with a dual voice coil speaker driver, it revolutionized the world of small two-way speakers by delivering quality and sound comparable to that of much larger speakers.
The company soon became very successful and began developing its products in the areas of traditional speakers and “high-end” speaker kits.
Focal headphones
In 2012, Focal launched its first high-fidelity headphones, and since then the company has never looked back. In the years that followed, they released countless award-winning headphones, and as a result, Focal is now regarded as one of the world's leading names in high-end headphones. Among Focal's best-known headphones are Clear Mg, Celestee, Utopia and Bathys, a series of closed-back and open-back high-end headphones that have earned them international recognition among Hi-Fi magazines and users.
Today, Focal products can be found in all areas of sound reproduction: in studios, in cars, and not least in headphones. Several reviewers have therefore given Focal’s Utopia headphones the title “The world’s best headphones”.
A world-renowned reference
1995 marked a turning point in the company’s history with the exceptional luxury speaker, Utopia. The ambition behind this speaker was to push the boundaries of acoustics and serve as a reference for future generations of speakers. What was only intended to be a technological challenge turned out to become a commercial product praised by the international press. From that moment on, Grande Utopia became a global reference in the world of acoustics. This achievement was repeated in 2002 with Utopia Be, and once again six years later, and most recently with the current Utopia III EVO.
