TD 1500 - Manual Belt-Drive Turntable with Suspended Sub-Chassis
TD 1500 is Thorens’ modern interpretation of one of the most significant turntables in hi-fi history. With this model, Thorens GmbH revives the legendary sub-chassis principle, first introduced in the 1960s, and combines it with modern precision, advanced motor control, and audiophile connectivity.
TD 1500 is a fully manual turntable created for the serious vinyl enthusiast who prioritizes mechanical calm, flexibility, and uncompromising sound quality.

A SUB-CHASSIS OF HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE
TD 1500 is built on the classic Thorens principle of a suspended sub-chassis, where the platter and tonearm are mechanically isolated from the motor and plinth. This design effectively reduces vibrations and external influences, creating a stable and calm foundation for playback.
The three conical springs can be adjusted from above through openings in the platter, making precise setup far more accessible than on historical designs. The result is optimal balance, correct geometry, and maximum mechanical calm.
ELECTRONICALLY MONITORED MOTOR
The electronically controlled DC motor is constantly monitored by an incremental encoder, which corrects even the smallest speed deviations in real time. External influences, such as the use of a record brush, are compensated automatically, providing excellent speed stability.
This ensures very low wow and flutter values and precise reproduction of pitch, timing, and rhythm.
TP 150 TONEARM WITH FULL ADJUSTABILITY
TD 1500 is equipped with Thorens’ newly developed TP 150 tonearm, which is also used in more exclusive models. The arm has an effective mass of 14 grams and offers adjustment of both height and azimuth, allowing precise matching with a wide range of cartridges.
Antiskating is adjusted via a mechanical solution with a sliding weight and ruby bearing, ensuring stable and repeatable compensation. The detachable headshell with SME standard makes cartridge changes simple and flexible.
ORTOFON 2M BRONZE AS STANDARD
TD 1500 comes with a factory-fitted and pre-adjusted cartridge from Ortofon. The nude Fine Line diamond stylus provides excellent tracking, high resolution, and exceptionally nuanced reproduction of both micro-details and spatial information.
The combination of the TP 150 tonearm and 2M Bronze cartridge results in an open, precise, and refined sound character that fully matches the turntable’s level of ambition.
BALANCED SIGNAL PATH AS A DISTINCTIVE FEATURE
As something truly special in this class, TD 1500 offers both a balanced XLR output and a traditional RCA output. With a suitable MC cartridge and compatible equipment, the turntable can be integrated into a true balanced signal path, reducing noise and increasing signal integrity.
This feature makes TD 1500 especially interesting for ambitious hi-fi setups where noise floor and signal purity are given high priority.
SOUND WITH DEPTH, CALM, AND PRECISION
TD 1500 plays with remarkable calm and authority. The sub-chassis design creates a black background against which the music’s details and dynamics stand out clearly. The bass is controlled and deep, the midrange is open and natural, and the treble is reproduced with great finesse and air.
It is a turntable that rewards quality components in the rest of the system and conveys the music with both precision and musicality.
DESIGN WITH RESPECT FOR THE HERITAGE
TD 1500 is visually clearly rooted in Thorens’ classic design tradition, but executed with modern materials and a high-quality finish. Every detail signals mechanical integrity, long service life, and an uncompromising focus on analog sound.
A MODERN CLASSIC
Thorens TD 1500 is not merely a tribute to the past, but a fully modern turntable developed for today’s audiophile demands. It combines historically important principles with modern technology and offers a platform that can stay with its owner for many years to come.
