A MODERN INTERPRETATION OF AN ICON

The TD 1601 builds on the classic Thorens principle of a spring-suspended sub-chassis, but in a technically refined version. The springs rest at the bottom of the cabinet instead of hanging from the top plate, providing more controlled and predictable movement.

A tightly tensioned steel wire connects the motor spindle and the platter spindle and stabilizes the structure, allowing the sub-chassis to move vertically like a piston rather than swinging sideways. The result is a significant reduction in micro-vibrations and more focused playback.

TP 160 TONEARM WITH KNIFE-EDGE BEARING

The newly developed TP 160 tonearm is inspired by classic studio designs, but executed with modern precision. The ultra-precise knife-edge bearing minimizes friction in vertical movement, while magnetic stabilization of the horizontal axis ensures extreme tracking accuracy.

The arm is a 9” J-shaped design and is equipped with an SME connector, providing maximum flexibility in cartridge choice. This construction makes the TD 1601 a serious platform for high-end MC cartridges.

ELECTRONIC CONTROL AND EXTERNAL POWER

The electronically controlled synchronous motor is powered by the external linear TPN 1600 power supply, which is equipped with a powerful toroidal transformer. This solution ensures stable and clean power delivery and thus optimal rotational stability.

The ground precision belt and the two-part machined aluminum platter work together to deliver consistent power transfer and low wow and flutter.

COMFORT IN THE ABSOLUTE REFERENCE CLASS

The TD 1601 differs from the manual TD 1600 by integrating a patented electric lift and contact-free automatic stop function. The arm is raised and lowered in a controlled manner, and the turntable stops automatically at the end of the record.

This combination provides everyday ease of use without compromising mechanical integrity.

TRUE BALANCED CONNECTION

As a rarity in the high-end segment, the TD 1601 offers both balanced XLR outputs and traditional RCA outputs. When used with a Moving Coil cartridge, the turntable can be part of a true balanced signal path, reducing electrical interference and ensuring maximum signal integrity.

This makes the TD 1601 especially well suited for advanced reference systems.
