Marantz CINEMA 70s Series 2 – big home theater in a slim format
Marantz CINEMA 70s Series 2 is a slim AV receiver for those who want to combine true surround sound, modern streaming, and flexible connectivity without a large receiver in the TV cabinet. The compact chassis houses seven amplifier channels with 50 watts per channel as well as Dolby Atmos, DTS, HEOS, and HDMI 2.1.
You get Audyssey MultEQ XT for room correction and the option to upgrade to Dirac Live. At the same time, support for 8K/60 Hz and 4K/120 Hz makes the receiver suitable for both movies and gaming. The combination of the slim format and the many features makes CINEMA 70s Series 2 particularly interesting for small and medium-sized home theaters, where movies, music, and gaming need to be gathered in one system.

Marantz CINEMA 70s Series 2 combines slim design and surround sound
One of the great strengths of the CINEMA 70s Series 2 is its compact format. Marantz has packed a complete 7-channel AV receiver into a chassis that is only about 11 cm high without antennas. This makes the receiver easier to integrate into a standard TV cabinet than many traditional AV receivers.
You can, for example, build a 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos system or choose other 7-channel setups. The receiver also has 7.2 pre-out, so you can later expand the system with external power amplifiers.
The built-in power is rated at 50 watts per channel into 8 ohms with two channels driven. CINEMA 70s Series 2 is therefore particularly relevant in systems where the speakers are not extremely power-hungry.
HDMI 2.1 for movies, TV, and gaming
Marantz CINEMA 70s Series 2 has six HDMI inputs and one HDMI output with eARC. Three of the HDMI inputs support 8K/60 Hz and 4K/120 Hz at up to 40 Gbps, while VRR, ALLM, and Quick Frame Transport make the receiver well suited to modern game consoles and gaming PCs.
Marantz also states support for AMD FreeSync on HDMI 4-6. The receiver also supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dynamic HDR, and HLG. This means that the TV, console, and other video sources can be connected through the receiver with support for modern picture formats.
Audyssey and the option for Dirac Live
A great home theater is not just about speakers and power. The room also has a major influence on the sound you ultimately hear. That is why the CINEMA 70s Series 2 has Audyssey MultEQ XT with automatic speaker calibration via the included microphone.
If you later want to work more advanced with room correction, the receiver can be upgraded with Dirac Live. This gives you the opportunity to expand the system if your requirements for setup and calibration grow over time.
HEOS and streaming for everyday music listening
With built-in HEOS, the CINEMA 70s Series 2 also works as the center for music in the home. You get access to Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Amazon Music, Deezer, and TuneIn, among others.
The receiver also supports AirPlay 2, Roon Ready, and high-resolution network playback up to 24-bit/192 kHz as well as DSD 2.8/5.6 MHz. If you have a turntable with an MM cartridge, it can be connected directly to the built-in MM phono input.
CINEMA 70s Series 2 thus brings together home theater and music listening in one compact AV receiver with room for streaming, vinyl, and traditional audio sources.
