Dynaudio Focus 10 - Big sound in a small package
For over 40 years, Dynaudio's compact speakers have raised eyebrows after hearing their impressive performance. With Focus 10, the eyebrows will be sent all the way to the sky. This is not just a pair of active speakers, but rather a complete music system that is packed from top to bottom with the technology that has taken Dynaudio to legendary status. At the same time, the Focus series has the most advanced wireless features you could want and much more.
Streaming has been one of the major areas of focus, which is why the Focus 10 can literally play anything digital. The wireless speaker is equipped with Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Apple AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast, Roon, Bluetooth and local network functions, so you can play the digital content online or on your network hard drive at home.
The built-in WiSA technology also means that the speakers can be connected wirelessly to a compatible TV or a USB dongle. It removes the need to have a large home cinema, so you suddenly have space in your living room. And the beauty is that it is all so simple. Minimal setup time is required as it only takes two cables to the wall plugs and an intuitive app to customize and set presets. Going from unboxing to hearing true audiophile sound has never been so quick or easy.
"[...] it was a beautiful soundstage on which my favorite artists performed my favorite tracks. Silky smooth sound, controlled bass, and a mid range that delighted me all day, every day. I highly recommend the Dynaudio Focus 10 active loudspeakers . Music, speakers, and fun, without the mess." - Audiophile Style
A new way of listening
An active loudspeaker does not mean a single amplifier per speaker. This means a single amplifier per unit. For the Focus 10, this means two amplifiers for each speaker. So where to use an amplifier for each individual treble and bass/midrange? Because it gives far more control over the speakers' performance. And that means each unit sounds as good as it possibly can without compromising. There are no losses here, as there are with traditional loudspeaker crossover filters.
To keep it all in check, Dynaudio has equipped the Focus 10 with sophisticated DSP (digital signal processing) technology. Here they've taken all the lessons they learned while creating their award-winning Focus XD, Xeo, LYD and Core ranges. They have used this to create a system that is as effective as it is easy to use. Simply tell the speakers where they are in your room (near a wall, in a corner or in an open space) and they will optimize their performance for that position. It can all be done easily and intuitively in the Dynaudio app, and if you want to delve even deeper into speaker calibration, there's optional Dirac Live technology for completely tailored results.
Dynaudio has made even the magnetic grid smart. The Focus 10 has specific EQ settings for when the grid is in use or not (you'll know it lowers the adjustment when you see the light flash blue briefly).
There are also muscles to go with the brain. With a total of 390W of Class-D Pascal amplification under the hood in each speaker (110W for the treble and 280W for the midrange/bass), the Focus 10 is ready to fill even a medium-sized room with high-quality sound. In fact, we'd say they take up more space than a speaker of their size has any right to. There's even an automatic fail-safe system to ensure the speakers aren't damaged when cranked up to neighbor nuisances: a bespoke sliding high-pass filter reduces the woofer's swing when the volume rises. Therefore, you can play loud with peace of mind.
Impressive devices, impressive technology
In the Focus 10 you will find a 28 mm Cerotar soft-dome tweeter, which uses techniques and materials developed during the creation of Dynaudio's acclaimed Confidence, Special Forty and Core series. This also includes the internal Hexis dome, which sits just below the membrane and refines the airflow behind the playing surface to smooth out the frequency response and reduce unwanted resonances. The magnet system is optimized and uses a strontium carbonate Ferrite+ ceramic design which increases treble sensitivity. It brings out incredible detail and ensures a natural treble response. This means an extremely low level of listener fatigue, so you can listen longer. And with focus 10, you'll want just that.
The 14 cm Esotec+ midrange and bass unit is the best Dynaudio has ever created for a speaker of this size. They have created it using experience gained during the development of the new Contour series. The new and improved magnet system extends the frequency response at lower frequencies, and because the box is closed, Dynaudio has been able to extend the low frequency performance down to pants-flapping depths.
As beautiful as that sound
The Focus 10 wouldn't be a Dynaudio speaker if it didn't look incredible. It is available in four beautiful finishes – Blond Wood, Walnut Wood, Black High Gloss and White High Gloss – each developed to complement real homes. After all, not everyone wants to rearrange their living room around their speakers.
