Cambridge Audio L/R X – active hi-fi with 800 watts and streaming

Cambridge Audio L/R X is an active stereo speaker set for those who want big hi-fi sound without separate amplifiers, streamers, and long cable runs. With 2 x 400 watts, StreamMagic Gen 4, HDMI eARC, an MM phono input, and the option of a wireless connection between the speakers, L/R X brings together virtually the entire system in one stereo setup.

Compared with the smaller models in the series, you get more power, larger bass drivers, and greater physical headroom. That makes L/R X especially interesting in larger rooms and for music where you want to experience weight, dynamics, and scale.

Cambridge Audio L/R X with 800 watts and powerful bass

Cambridge Audio L/R X is not just a larger version of L/R M. Each speaker has 400 watts of amplification combined with a 28 mm specially developed tweeter, 5" active bass/midrange drivers, and 6" passive radiators.

The design is developed to reach down to around 35 Hz and give the music more physical weight in the low end. That can make a separate subwoofer unnecessary in many setups. The extra capacity also makes L/R X an obvious choice for larger living rooms and for those who prioritize dynamic headroom and a larger-scale sound experience.

Streaming, TV, and turntable in the same stereo system

L/R X is built for more than music streaming. StreamMagic Gen 4 provides access to, among other things, Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Qobuz, Amazon Music, and internet radio. At the same time, the system supports Roon Ready, AirPlay 2, and Google Cast, giving you multiple options for playing music.

With HDMI eARC, the speakers can also be used with your TV, while the built-in MM phono input makes it possible to connect a compatible turntable directly. USB-C, optical input, and USB-A provide additional options for digital and local audio sources.

The result is a flexible active stereo system where most of your everyday audio sources can be connected directly to the speakers.

Wireless connection between the speakers

Cambridge Audio L/R X supports WiSA, so the left and right speakers can be connected wirelessly. This gives you greater freedom in placement and reduces the need for a long link cable between the speakers.

If you prefer a wired connection, USB-C speaker link is also supported. The built-in 64-bit DSP works together with DynamEQ and Room Optimisation so the sound can be adapted to volume level and placement.

Via the StreamMagic app, you can also choose between the EQ profiles Normal, Movie, and Voice. This makes it easy to adapt the system for music, films, and clear dialogue respectively.

Active hi-fi that is allowed to make an impression in the room

L/R X is designed as a visible part of the interior. The floating base, LED underlighting, and striking finishes give the speakers an architectural expression that matches their size and role in the room.

Each speaker measures 200 × 330 × 260 mm and weighs 10.4 kg. L/R X therefore has more of the character of a true hi-fi component than a traditional desktop speaker.

Cambridge Audio L/R X is especially interesting if you want to reduce the number of separate boxes in your stereo system without lowering your ambitions at the same time. If you have a smaller room or do not need the full 800 watts, L/R M is the more obvious alternative.
