Focal - Award-winning headphones and speakers
It all started in 1979 in Saint-Étienne, when Focal's budding talent took root in the workshop of a family-run company specialising in precision mechanics. At the time, there were just two men working on the production of loudspeaker drivers, one of whom was Focal's future founder, Jacques Mahul. Creations from this Hi-Fi enthusiast and Pink Floyd fan has seduced music lovers and audio enthusiasts all over the world.
The Focal brand became a business by manufacturing loudspeaker units for other loudspeaker manufacturers, while another brand, JM-lab, concentrated on manufacturing high-end loudspeakers. The flagship of this first range of loudspeakers was the DB 13. Equipped with a dual voice coil loudspeaker driver, it revolutionised the world of small two-way loudspeakers by reproducing a quality and sound comparable to that of much larger loudspeakers.
The company soon became very successful and began to develop its products within classic speakers and "high-end" speaker sets.
Focal headphones
In 2012, Focal launched their first high-fidelity headphones, and since then the company has not looked back. In the following years, they have released countless award-winning headphones, which is why Focal is today considered one of the world leaders in high-end headphones. Among Focal's most famous headphones are the Clear Mg , Celestee , Utopia and Bathys , which are a series of closed and open high-end headphones that have earned them international recognition among Hi-Fi magazines and users.
Today, Focal products are found in all areas of sound reproduction; in studios, in cars, and not least in headphones. Several reviewers have thus given Focal's Utopia headphones the title "The World's Best Headphones".
A world-renowned reference
1995 marked a turning point in the company's history with the launch of the unique luxury loudspeaker, Utopia. The ambition of this loudspeaker was to push the boundaries of acoustics and serve as a reference for future generations of loudspeakers. What was intended to be a technological challenge turned out to be a commercial product, praised by the international press. From that moment on, Grande Utopia became a global reference in the world of acoustics. This feat was repeated in 2002 with the Utopia Be and again six years later, and most recently with the current Utopia III EVO.
